Here are 10 easy things that you can do to prevent stormwater pollution (which becomes LAKE POLLUTION!): 1. Use fertilizers sparingly and sweep up driveways, sidewalks, and gutters. Always use no-phosphorus fertilizer. 2. Never dump anything down storm drains or in the lake. 3. Compost your yard waste. 4. Seed bare spots in your lawn. 5. Use less toxic pesticides, follow labels, and learn how to prevent pest problems. 6. Direct downspouts away from paved surfaces; consider a rain garden or rain barrel to capture runoff. 7. Take your car ot the carwash instead of washing it in the driveway. 8. Check your car for leaks and recycle your motor oil. 9. Pick up after your pet. 10. Have your septic tank pumped and system inspected regularly. There are many things that individual watershed residents (and citizens that visit the area) can do to help improve water quality at Carter Lake. Follow the links below to learn more: Pollutant cleanup and disposal There will be many opportunities for citizens to become involved with the lake project by volunteering to help out with education and outreach activities. To learn about volunteer opportunities, contact the Project Coordinator. |
