Carter Lake Water Quality Project
Carter Lake is a rare, urban recreational resource for the Omaha metro area shared by two cities (Carter Lake and Omaha), two counties (Pottawattamie and Douglas), and two states (Iowa and Nebraska). Located directly west of Eppley Airfield and two miles north of the Qwest Convention Center and Omaha’s downtown area, Carter Lake is the first view visitors see when they arrive in Omaha and start to explore the metro area.
The Carter Lake Water Quality Project is jointly sponsored by the City of Carter Lake and City of Omaha. Project funding will be provided by the City of Omaha, the City of Carter Lake, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Aquatic Habitat Funds, State of Iowa Lake Restoration Program Funds, State of Iowa Fish and Wildlife Trust Funds, and United States Environmental Protection Agency Section 319 Funds administered by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality
